bodysonik vision

bodysonik – an artistic vision.

Bodysonik englobes diverse approaches to theatre to explore the texts of language, voice, movement, body, rhythm, space and light. Drawing upon the creative interrelationships, bodysonik seeks to uncover the unsaid levels and unexpressed, and to foster an environment where artists can explore texts from their own perspectives, personal contexts and voices.

This vision has stemmed from personal research, theatre experiences and cultural influences and underlies the theatre practice, artistic collaborations, research and teaching projects.

Creativity for learning and exploring

The theatre offers an arena for creating and performing dramatic texts; theatre also offers a rich arena for learning.  The Theatre in English classes and workshop explore the  practice of theatre in English for foreign speakers, as a way to practice a language, to learn more about the culture, and to grasp the sub-text of language through texts.  The classes focus on the sounds of the language, body in movement, individuals in situations, and how actor preparation techniques can transfer into the teaching context as ways to enable learning and languages acquisition, creatively.  By freeing the speaker/actor through games and movement into the space, rhythm and speech become freed and anchored in experience through improvisation.  Obstacles of elocution, grammar, and understanding are approached as ways to unleash the possibilities of a language by working with the sounds and exploring them through movement.  Sounds contain emotion.  Learned reflexes and levels of cultural understanding are embedded into the ways that languages are spoken using the body, voice intonation, and intentions of the person speaking.  These levels of communication are freed through the exercises and become spaces for invention of speech and possibilities in communication.

When participants encounter obstacles in the sounds, structure or understanding, these are treated as sources of exploration and reflection, which are worked on using actor techniques.  By treating language similar to the sub-text of a literary dramatic work, speech and communication are set into motion and become anchored in situations through improvisation and the language itself.

Artistic projects

Ensemble Theatre – The Actor Training and Performance Workshop started four years ago and is open to native speakers and fluent anglophones. The yearly workshop explores a selection of dramatic texts to discover writing styles, content, and themes.  Then together, the ensemble chooses a text to explore possibilities for performance.  The core of the workshop focuses on actor preparation including movement, voice, breathing, improvisation, and spatial exploration of body, voice, and rhythm working towards the creation of an ensemble.  The performance becomes an organic experience that develops over time and the productions are performed each year.

Communication through Culture

By enabling participants to discover a language by participating in and attending events and activities, culture becomes a meeting point and an encounter, where the experience is shared through diverse perspectives.  It also creates links and communication between people based on trust and respect.
